New York dining scene

Posted on

It’s been just over a week ago we got back from New York, so I wanted to write about my food venture while everything is still fresh in my mind. So much deliciousness. Thank goodness we did a lot of walking. New York is bustling at any hour of the day & night. Plenty of everything for every appetite. Lots of street vendors, hole in the wall spots, and delivery service for the on the go NY lifestyle. Basically, food is available everywhere!

Here’s a few places we visited:

  • Cellar 58 (italian vino bar)  My amiga, Danielle cheffing things up… delicioso
  • Bar Boulud (bistro)  Great for Sunday brunch on the patio, weather permitting
  • Mamas Empanadas  Recommended by my amiga, Alyssa… frequent NY visitor
  • Jean-Georges (3 *** Michelin)  Amazingness
  • Artichoke (pizza pie)  Lil’ hole in the wall oozing with NY goodness
  • Akina (sushi)  20 seat spot for a light bite

My chef mentor would argue that NY is the food capital of the world. He would not let me leave without having made reservations at Jean-Georges. Literally, I made the call in front of him. And it was so worth it. JG is a 3 michelin star French influenced kitchen… considered the best in fine dining. Everything from its floor to ceiling windows overlooking Central Park, the impeccable service and attention to detail (thank you, John David!), and the beautiful farmers’ market driven menu… it was most definitely a memorable meal & experience. And to add to the occasion it so happened Oprah Winfrey & her bff Gayle King just happened to be dining there (!!!) as well as  brief Chef sighting as he popped into the dining room lol
