First Downs & Unwanted Pounds

Posted on

Super Bowl Sunday is around the corner… whether you’re hosting or attending a big game party this weekend let’s take a moment to get your menu game plan in order. First off, did you know that Super Bowl Sunday is rated the second biggest food consumption day for Americans?? (Thanksgiving is #1) It’s also another day foodball fans are prone to overeating. No bueno, especially if you’ve been working toward acheiving healthier goals this year. Don’t fret. You can definitely stay on track with a little creative planing. This way you can focus on those touchdowns instead of those extra pounds!

Health starts in the kitchen. Please don’t confuse healthy for boring. I don’t believe in boring food, nor should you. Keep recipes simple & satisfying. Smart substitutions are key, though. Grilled vs. fried. Well-seasoned vs. over saucy. Fresh vs. processed. You get my drift. Here’s a few suggestions to get you in the healthy direction…

  • Seasonal veggie or fruit platter
  • Plantain chips & guacamole
  • Taco salad with quinoa
  • Turkey chili with black beans
  • Grilled chicken with pineapple salsa
  • Salmon burgers
  • Shrimp spring rolls

Stay focused on the goal… the healthy one, too. Hopefully with some conscious eating on game day you’ll feel better once it’s all over, that is unless your team loses. Hmmm, not sure I can do much in that department.
